Emailed accounts: As easy as sending an SMS or email to make the switch

The City will no longer send printed bills via the South African Postal Service after 31 December 2025 as part of its efforts to move accounts to email. The City has been encouraging residents to switch to emailed accounts for a number of years and more than 430 000 accounts are currently being sent in this way. Residents who do not have access to email can contact the City’s Call Centre for assistance.
‘It is easier than ever to receive both business and residential accounts via email, all you have to do is send an email or SMS with the account number and email address to request an emailed account before 31 December 2025. After this date, the City will be going paperless. We’ve made significant steps over the years to limit the number of bills we print and send via the postal service. We are stepping up our efforts to switch all accounts to email and have made it very easy to make the switch. Importantly, all account holders with no email access will be helped and are advised to call the City’s Call Centre so we know about them and can assist them.
‘It is important that all residents receive their accounts before the billing due date. We are therefore reducing risk with the postal service and bills not being delivered. Emailed accounts make it simple for account holders to keep track of their bills, and use the accounts for proof of residence. Saving on printing and postage costs also contributes to a more financially and environmentally sustainable organisation,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.
